Orlando Pirates Bid Farewell to Lesedi Kapinga

Lesedi Kapinga has been let go by Orlando Pirates, just one day before the club’s season-opening Betway Premiership match.

On Tuesday, 17 September, the Soweto giants confirmed the release of the 29-year-old midfielder:

“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that it has reached an agreement with Lesedi Kapinga for the early release of his contract. Both parties have agreed to amicably part ways following a meeting earlier today.

“On behalf of the extended Orlando Pirates family, we would like to thank Lesedi for his time at the club and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Having fallen out of favour with coach Jose Riveiro, Kapinga had very limited playing time: he made only 13 appearances and scored zero goals across all competitions during the 2023/24 season.

It’s unknown at this time where Kapinga will go from here, although his experience and skills could make him an attractive option for clubs in need of depth.

As for Pirates, it will be interesting to see how they fare without him in their match against Chippa United at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, Gauteng this evening, Wednesday 18 September.
